  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my chosen field of accountancy during my early academic years, drawn by the analytical nature of the profession and the crucial role it plays in shaping business success. Over the course of my 12+ years of industry experience as a Chartered Certified Accountant, I've had the opportunity to deepen my expertise across various areas of finance, accounting, and business strategy. My passion for private tutoring grew as I mentored junior colleagues and aspiring accountants, realizing how rewarding it is to help others understand complex concepts, achieve their goals, and grow professionally. This combination of technical knowledge and a desire to share it naturally led me to pursue private tutoring.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

As a Chartered Certified Accountant with over 12 years of industry experience, I primarily teach accounting, finance, and related business subjects. I enjoy breaking down complex topics such as financial reporting, management accounting, audit principles, and tax regulations into simpler, digestible concepts for my students. I find it especially rewarding to discuss real-world applications of these subjects, like how financial decisions impact business growth or how strategic cost management drives profitability.

I also encourage discussions on emerging topics such as sustainability reporting, financial technology, and evolving regulatory frameworks, as they help students stay future-ready.

While I enjoy most aspects of teaching, I find that topics involving rote memorization, such as some specific tax laws or compliance details, can be less engaging. However, I always strive to make even these areas relevant and practical by showing their real-world importance to a student's career or business success.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My greatest role model has always been my mother, who was a dedicated teacher. Her passion for education and the genuine care she showed for her students deeply inspired me. Growing up, I saw how she positively impacted so many lives, and it instilled in me the belief that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about inspiring confidence and a love for learning.

Her influence shaped my approach to private tutoring-I aim to emulate her patience, dedication, and ability to connect with her students. This inspiration drives me to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where my students can thrive and reach their full potential.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs a blend of technical expertise, communication skills, and empathy. First and foremost, deep subject knowledge is essential as students look to a tutor not just for answers but for insights and clarity that build their confidence.

Equally important is the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit each student's unique learning style, pace, and needs. Patience and active listening are crucial here, as they allow the tutor to identify where a student struggles and how best to support them.
Strong communication skills are vital for explaining complex concepts in simple, relatable terms, while enthusiasm and passion for teaching make learning more engaging and enjoyable for the student.

Empathy and encouragement are key to building a positive, trusting relationship with students, creating a safe space where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

Lastly, being organized and approachable helps set clear goals and maintain consistency, ensuring steady progress over time.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my school days, I vividly remember a moment that sparked my interest in accounting and finance. In one of our business classes, we were assigned a project to create a mock budget for a small business. While most of my classmates focused solely on the numbers, I delved deeper, analyzing how different expenses and revenue streams impacted profitability.

Our teacher was so impressed by my approach that she showcased my project as an example of how to think critically and strategically, not just calculate. That experience gave me a glimpse into the power of accounting-not just as a technical skill but as a tool for decision-making and business growth.

This moment stayed with me throughout my career, and it's a lesson I now share with my students: accounting is not just about numbers; it's about understanding the story they tell and using that knowledge to make informed decisions.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges I faced early in my career as a Chartered Certified Accountant was keeping up with the constantly evolving regulatory landscape and accounting standards. Staying updated required not only continuous learning but also adapting quickly to new frameworks and ensuring compliance without compromising efficiency.

Another challenge I encountered was simplifying complex financial concepts for stakeholders who didn't have a background in accounting. Bridging this communication gap required me to develop strong interpersonal and presentation skills, which ultimately helped me grow as a professional and a tutor.

As a tutor, one ongoing challenge is addressing the varying learning styles and confidence levels of students. Some grasp concepts quickly, while others need more time and encouragement. It requires patience and adaptability to tailor my teaching approach to each student, but it's also one of the most rewarding aspects of the role.

Despite these challenges, they've taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of continuous learning qualities I now emphasize to my students.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in teaching and sharing knowledge, particularly in the field of accounting and finance. I enjoy helping students unlock the complexities of the subject and seeing the moment when everything 'clicks' for them. It's incredibly rewarding to know that I've helped someone build confidence in a subject that can initially seem intimidating.

What I love most about accounting is its real-world impact-it's the backbone of every business decision, from budgeting to strategy. I'm especially passionate about teaching the practical applications of accounting principles, showing students how these concepts translate into solving real-life problems and driving business success.

Beyond teaching, I also enjoy mentoring students on broader professional skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication, which are essential in any career. This holistic approach is what makes teaching truly fulfilling for me-it's not just about imparting knowledge but also about empowering students to succeed in their journeys.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)

What makes me a Superprof is my combination of expertise, passion, and dedication to my students' success. With over 12 years of experience as a Chartered Certified Accountant, I bring a wealth of real-world knowledge to my teaching, helping students connect theory to practice.

My approach goes beyond just delivering lessons-I strive to create a supportive, personalized learning environment that adapts to each student's unique needs and goals. Whether it's simplifying complex concepts, building confidence, or mentoring students on professional skills, I'm committed to empowering them to achieve their full potential.

I'm also passionate about continuous learning and growth, both for myself and my students. By staying updated on the latest developments in accounting and finance, I ensure my students are equipped with relevant, future-ready knowledge.
Ultimately, what makes me a Superprof is my unwavering belief that learning should not only be effective but also engaging, inspiring, and transformative for every student I work with.
