About Maya
I’m a guitar tutor with over 3 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music, specializing in guitar. My journey started as a self-taught teenager, spending countless hours chasing the riffs and solos I loved. Over time, that curiosity turned into formal training and eventually into a career as an educator. Now I get to help others unlock the guitar in ways that feel clear, approachable, and fun. I know how overwhelming the instrument can seem at first, so I focus on decoding it step by step. Patience and humor are a big part of my style because I believe learning should feel encouraging, not intimidating. Alongside traditional technique, I share practical hacks that make complex ideas easier to grasp. One of my most popular tools is my “riff breakdown” method, where we take apart famous guitar lines to understand how they work—and then rebuild them in your own style. I also use real-time songwriting challenges to spark creativity and give students confidence in their own ideas. These moments of exploration often lead to real breakthroughs, both musically and personally. My teaching approach for guitar lessons is all about making learning feel alive and engaging. I use storytelling, humor, and real-world music references to connect with students in a way that feels both fun and meaningful. I introduce bending and vibrato techniques early on, since they bring character and emotion to the guitar’s voice. Solo phrasing is another focus, helping players move beyond scales into expressive, personal lines that tell a story. Tone shaping is woven into each step, so students learn how to make their guitar sound unique and authentic.
Stage confidence is also part of my teaching, because music should be shared with joy and freedom.
