Singing is an intimate form of communication—it gives us a way to express our innermost thoughts while also connecting to something greater than ourselves. My approach to voice instruction is centered around Integration, Intentionality, Emotional Expression, and Cultural Awareness.
Integration refers to aligning the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of singing. We work on building healthy vocal function through exercises that engage the breath, posture, and phonation, while also integrating body awareness and self-reflection. Lessons begin with a grounding check-in, both physically and mentally, to ensure that each student feels present and ready to grow.
Intentionality means we don’t just sing to sound good—we sing to communicate. Every exercise, scale, and song is approached with purpose. I emphasize understanding why we do what we do, and how each skill fits into your broader vocal development. Emotional expression is cultivated through imaginative tools such as lyric mapping, sensory memory, and movement-based singing. I help you connect to the emotional core of each piece, guiding you toward honest, moving performances. Cultural awareness is woven throughout. We consider the context, origin, and significance of each song, ensuring that repertoire choices are approached with integrity and relevance.
Students are encouraged to bring in songs that resonate with their background and lived experience, making the learning process both personal and culturally rich. Accountability supports all of this—we set measurable goals, track progress, and create a practice structure that fits your lifestyle.
