About Alex

I'm a professional Software Engineer with over 5 years experience. Initially as a Java developer, then moving into C#, Go, Ruby during my tenure at GitHub. Had a little break while I tried out the whole medical school thing as you do. I primarily teach Python and have done for over 8 years, both kids and adults. Previous tutor with CodeToday, teaching Python from the ages of 7-17 in in person group formats. Also supported university students with programming coursework as well as exam prep for Computer Science/Coding modules. Back in my day Computer Science wasn't cool (it is now right? RIGHT!?) and it was a university only offering. I love teaching because basically I love talking . ADHD ftw! I know what it's like to feel stupid? Or that you'll never understand this concept or that etc because of some missing innate capacity? That's such trash. I personally enjoy the challenge of stretching how I see something and seeing how someone else does in order to support them picking up a new skill/concept. It's that A-ha moment you can see on someone's face that is such a hit for me! Also selfishly, the more ways I need to explain/teach something cements my own understanding. See one, do one, teach one! (Also cause money, cause London, and I need to afford food for my gorgeous ginger cat Buffy - best TV show of all time, I will accept no other opinions)

About the lesson

Me & My Style I'm a firm believer that everyone has the capacity to pick up concepts or skills which initially seem intimidating. It's my job to figure out how you learn, and how I can teach concepts using anything from everyday life that's familiar to you. Your lesson plan/structure is unique to YOU. I know first hand it's how something is taught which is often the barrier. I was absolutely useless at Maths in school (or so I thought!). Until I had Miss Hayward..... I now have a Maths based degree. What I can offer Coding tutoring.... Never seen a programming language in your life? - Wondering how you program a computer ON a computer!? Madness - No problem! - We work out where you are and we build a plan together that we both iterate on Largely Python based - I personally think it's one of the best languages to learn as your first as it allows you to write declaratively, functionally and OOP. It's also the closest to English. No idea what those words mean? No problem, we'll get you there . TBH I forget what they mean sometimes) High school / Uni Coursework - Help with uni coursework (I won't write it for you, I'm going to teach you to fish - I want you to not need me eventually, and I do you a disservice if I don't let you learn) - Exam prep - past papers Computer Science etc

First lesson free! On-going Session length min 1h, then in 30 min blocks. E.g. 1h 30, 2h, 2h 30 etc Happy to have breaks (you won't be charged for that :) ) I unfortunately have to operate a 24 cancellation policy, if you cancel less than 24 hours before, regrettably you will be charged .
