Learn Spanish from the University of Canterbury

Learn Spanish in Christchurch
The University of Canterbury is a public university that offers courses in Spanish (Credits - University of Canterbury)

Spanish has evolved into a language of critical relevance for New Zealand's future in the global economic arena. In addition to providing students with chances for studying in the classroom, the University of Canterbury works closely with the Spanish Ministry of Education to provide teaching jobs for students in Spain.

They prepare students to understand and appreciate the Hispanic world and to face the demanding challenges of our increasingly globalised world by placing an emphasis on studies of language, culture, and interdisciplinary topics. At the same time, we work to promote cultural diversity at UC and within the community it serves.

Courses in Spanish are designed for students with no prior understanding of the language as well as those with some familiarity with it. To see the complete list of Spanish classes, please click on the link provided below. SPAN 101 is designed for students who have never taken any Spanish before, whereas SPAN 201 is the typical starting point for students who have completed NCEA Level 3 in the language. People who have learned the skills necessary for their position via other ways may also take placement exams.

Speak Spanish Institute

In 2009, in response to the lack of a specialised Spanish language institute in the city that was able to provide Spanish language instruction to students of all ages and levels, the Speak Spanish TM – Spanish Language Institute was established. This institute is able to teach Spanish to students of all ages and levels.

They are excellent in the one thing that they specialise in, which is the teaching of Spanish. Their programmes cater to students of all skill levels, covering topics like grammar, vocabulary, listening, and writing, with the primary emphasis being placed on communication and speaking.

They are the only specialist Spanish language school in Christchurch, and all of their instructors are competent native speakers who also have years of experience teaching both Spanish and English. Speak Spanish is led by Laura D'Amico, who is also one of its four instructors and serves as the program's head. More than 13 years have passed since Laura first started working in the education sector in New Zealand.
