Hi I'm Arnold. With over 17 years of teaching Chemistry up to IB Diploma including A level, I always prepare my lessons and vary my teaching methods to meet the needs of the learners.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
My main subject is Chemistry from GCSE up to and including A level (AQA, OCR A and OCR B (Salters)) and IB Diploma. In addition to this I can also tutor the following: HEFC Chemistry Level 2 & 3, GCSE Applied Science, GCSE Biology, GCSE Business Studies, GCSE Maths, GCSE Physics, Key Stage 3 Maths and Key Stage 3 Science
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a BSc degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- How much do you charge?
Hourly fees for one to one lessons are as follows: IB Diploma £30; A Level £25; GCSE £20; KS3 £15. A 15% discount is given for KS3 and GCSE students who want a group lesson while for A level and IB Diploma students discount rate is set at 10%. More details on my website. I always start sessions with a free initial assessment which will last from 30 – 45 minutes. There are no extra fees for travelling for distances up to 10 miles but beyond this a charge of £1 for every 5 miles I travel applies. Hourly fees for online lessons are as follows: IB Diploma £25; A Level £20; GCSE & KS3 £15. There will be no travel fees even if I have to travel to access internet.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at the student's home, at my home in Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees. I teach group sessions of up to 14 students at the Education Centre in Norton or Stockton Business Centre. I am willing to travel to the student for a distance up to 10 miles without travel charges. I charge £1 for every 5 miles I travel beyond 10 miles.
- When are you available?
I am available every day of the week from 9 am – 8pm, unless I have a booking, except Friday evening from 5 pm onwards and the whole of Saturday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach students from Year 9 (KS3) to adults who are doing diploma and undergraduate courses.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
GCSE Certificate, GCE A Level Certificate, IB Diploma Certificate and any Level 4 or 5 course that requires a Chemistry component or Business Management.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I'm currently doing lessons online via Skype but will move to Blackboard in a couple of months.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Be consistent in your studies. Work on the given tasks immediately after the lesson when the concepts are still in your temporary memory. Doing so will enable you to transfer them into your permanent memory; this is called learning. You must be able to apply information you have learnt for it to become knowledge. Not doing this will lead to an academic disaster.
