Alevel, IB examiner. 20 years of successful tutoring - Maths tutor with Stuart

Context :

I was head of science at the English school of Kyrenia Northern Cyprus from August 2017 to August 2019. I worked with Stuart from August 2018 to July 2019 having interviewed him during the previous spring. He primarily had sole responsibility for teaching ‘A’ level Chemistry both AS and A2 for Edexcel International ‘A’ level. He also taught some KS3 classes.

Teaching :

In line with school and departmental policy, I formally observed Stuart teaching on at least two occasions. These were ‘A’ level classes and Stuart demonstrated solid subject knowledge and his lessons employed a wide range of different activities which included practical demonstrations and appropriate use of technology to enhance the lesson. In particular, I recall that Stuart used Kahoot quizzes as his plenary during which the students were split into small teams so that there was an element of competition. His lessons also had appropriate pace.

Other Duties :

Stuart contributed to the life and work of the department as a whole, with activities such as producing the end of term exams for use by the whole department. He was a form tutor and took part in extra curricular activities in line with school expectations.

Professionalism :

Stuart was always professional and I had no concerns in terms of attendance, punctuality, appearance, or relationships with students, parents, or colleagues. Moreover, he was an amiable and sociable member of my team.

I would recommend Mr Smith for any teaching role. Throughout the time I have known Mr Smith he has always been a consummate professional. He takes his teaching responsibility very seriously and strives to ensure the best learning outcomes for all his students.
