Boxing Alley

You can find Boxing Alley at 65 Parnell Rise in Auckland. There are beginner boxing classes, boxing fitness classes, boxing technique classes, low-impact HIIT sessions, and intensive aerobic and anaerobic workout classes. They also offer corporate wellness, personal training, and physiotherapy as well as the first class for free for many of the different classes they offer.

You can enjoy one-on-one personal training, but the sessions work out cheaper per person if you choose two-people or three-people sessions. There are also discounts if you choose to pay for a 10-session bundle over the 5-session bundle, which includes class passes and glove hire.

Boxing Central

Boxing Central can be found at 5 Rendall Place, Eden Terrace in Auckland. This boxing gym has been in Auckland for a while and claims to be the biggest in the city.

At Boxing Central, there are boxing courses and classes available, with the main difference being that the courses are for a limited time while the classes are ongoing.

The courses include the 6-week Handpad Course and the 12-week Zero to Hero Course. As you can imagine, the handpad course focuses on pad work.

The Zero to Hero Course teaches technical boxing skills for boxing fitness classes and is a great choice for people interested in attending the other classes who don't have the necessary boxing technique to follow along.

College Rifles Boxing

College Rifles Boxing is on Haast Street, Remuera, Auckland, and is run out of the College Rifles Rugby & Sports Club. You can find the boxing club at the back of College Rifles behind the tennis courts.

It's run by the former NZ and Australasian Cruiserweight Champion Joshua “Chucky” Francis and offers corporate and amateur fight training, boxing physical training for children, and one-on-one private boxing training sessions.

Elite Thai Kickboxing

Elite Thai Kickboxing has been going for decades and has one of the country's largest fighting teams with both domestic and international champions.

While both sports have their merits, kickboxing is generally considered to be better for self-defence in some ways simply because it allows for a greater range of techniques. However, it has been suggested that kicking for self-defence has a greater risk of slipping and falling whereas boxing will leave you with your feet firmly planted and an opportunity to escape following punches.

In either case, both are great for your fitness and come with plenty of physical and mental benefits and if you feel like Thai kickboxing, often known as Muay Thai, is for you, then Elite Thai Kickboxing could be the place to do it.

Elite Thai Kickboxing is located at 701N Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland. They offer plenty of different classes and sessions throughout the week as well as personal training in Muay Thai and other styles of martial arts.

Jai Thai Boxing Gym

Jai Thai Boxing Gym is another location where you can learn about Muay Thai and participate in classes or personal training.

There are several beginners' classes throughout the week at various times and on the weekends. In addition to the classes for other levels, you can also attend classes on boxing fundamentals, clinching, pads, sparring, and drills. There's also a kids' class on Saturdays.

Studio Box

Studio Box is a gym that offers fitness classes inspired by boxing techniques and workouts. In addition to their regular classes, they also offer private sessions for individuals and businesses.

There are lots of different options in terms of membership and you can buy packs of lessons or unlimited access.

There are two Studio Box locations, one at 17 Crowhurst Street, Newmarket and the other at 2 Princes Street, Auckland CBD.

The Box Office

The Box Office has locations in both Howick and Penrose and offers high-energy classes for burning fat, toning muscle, and building strength.

There are classes and sessions throughout the week and on the weekends for all levels and various ages including adult boxing classes and teens boxing classes.

You can find the Howick location at 153 Moore Street and the Penrose location at 49A Station Road.

The Combat Centre

The Combat Centre offers classes in several different combat sports for all levels and ages.

Children as young as 4 can start learning about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), but there are also boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai classes.

BJJ is often recommended as a great discipline for self-defence since it focuses on holds, grapples, and submission techniques. The Combat Centre also offers women-only sessions in BJJ.

As for boxing and kickboxing, you can find classes for all levels as well as high-intensity boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai sessions for fitness.

So whether you want to compete or do a combat sport for your fitness or self-defence, The Combat Centre could be a good choice.
You can find it at 2b/12 Kawakawa Place, Whenuapai, Auckland.

The Hawks' Nest Gym

The Hawks' Nest Gym is specifically a Muay Thai gym that offers strength, cardio, and technical classes and sessions for different levels and ages. They offer a free week-long trial, too.

Classes include circuit training, padwork, technique, and advanced classes.

UBX Grey Lynn

UBX Grey Lynn is located at 10 Maidstone Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland. UBX (pronounced like "you-box") is a combination of boxing and strength training that lasts 45 minutes.

UBX was founded in Australia, but now has locations in Singapore, the UK, the US, and New Zealand, of course, including the location in Grey Lynn.

The UBX courses and programs follow a 7-week training cycle. You'll work on speed and endurance, strength, explosive movement, technique, and drills.

UBX offers a free workout if you're interested in trying it out before you commit to it.

Urban Sport

Urban Sport offers kickboxing, functional fitness, circuit training, and MMA. There are classes for women, kids, and fighters of all levels.

The longer you commit to a membership, the less you pay per week with a 6-month contract costing the most per week and the 18-month contract being the most cost-effective.

You have the option to watch a class before trying it and you can just show up for a free trial. Most of the classes have a focus on fitness over fighting, but there are still great options for those interested in fighting or sparring.

You can find Urban Sport Gym North Shore at 62 Mokoia Rd (Rear Unit), Birkenhead, Auckland.

Learn How to Box with a Private Tutor

No matter your reasons for wanting to box, you can also always look to private tutoring or training. On the Superprof website, we have tutors, trainers, and coaches for boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, BJJ, and any other martial art you can think of.

Private coaching or tutoring comes with plenty of benefits and is usually the most cost-effective way to train or learn a new skill since every minute of every session is spent focusing on you and adapting each activity to you and what you want to do.

Just search for what you want to do in Auckland and browse the profiles of boxing or fitness coaches. On each profile, you can see what they offer, how much they charge, and what their other clients have to say about them.

You can also get online coaching and you'd be surprised at just how effective these sessions can be. While you obviously can't do pad work against your laptop or tablet, a coach can always work with you to come up with effective training plans, dietary advice, and other kinds of advice that you can use when working out at home or at the gym.

Most coaches on the platform offer the first session for free so you can try a few of them out before deciding which one would be right for you, your budget, and your goals.

If you're on a tight budget, don't forget that you can also look to group sessions so if you and a group of friends, family members, or colleagues are interested in boxing, you could save money by sharing the cost of the tutor's time.
