My teaching philosophy is to put myself in the shoes of a student, because a teacher should understand that different people learn in different ways. I guide students to come up with answers on their own by asking questions that will elicit the correct response, so they learn to be autonomous. I try to make learning fun and dynamic, so they open themselves up to enjoying the idea of new knowledge.
I am a recent Skidmore College graduate who double majored in English and Psychology, with a focus in creative writing. In high school, I tutored younger students through the National Honor Society, in subjects such as English, Spanish, and science. I am a softball coach, with experience working with young people ages 8–18.

To whom it may concern,
As a graduate from Skidmore College, with a B.A. in English and Psychology, I have a diverse education in subjects ranging from creative nonfiction to mental health. Ultimately, I have learned to understand people and how they think. For my senior capstone, I wrote a collection of creative nonfiction essays titled "The Liberal Arts Experience," a 30-page series of anecdotes and observations from attending a small liberal arts college, ranging from humorous to insightful. An essay I've written has been accepted for publication in the Oakland Arts Review, and I am currently submitting more pieces to other publications. An academic essay I wrote for my Medieval Romance class was nominated for a prize at Skidmore.
Other experiences include being a board member of The Skidmo' Daily, Skidmore College's satirical newspaper. I was one of their most active writers and their official publicist. Professionally, I have worked with musicians, either in publicity, which requires people and writing skills, or via assistant work, which requires organization and management skills. Finally, I am currently a softball coach for girls ages 8–18, and I am hoping to coach girls at the collegiate level. This has given me ample experience in teaching, using both fun and constructive methods.
I look forward to continuing my career as a coach/teacher/writer. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to do so as an English teacher, as I have a great passion for both instructing and for English.
