About the lesson
I have always had a passion for teaching. I started tutoring when I was in high school in the USA, where I graduated top of my class. At a university in the US I helped teach undergraduate chemistry as group leader in their "peer led team learning" scheme. I then moved to the UK where I earned a first class honours Bsc in chemical biology from the University of Leicester. I received the Hunter medal for graduating at the top of the chemistry department. I then went on to get a PhD in Biochemistry, focused on oligonucleotide therapy for diseases involving problems with alternative splicing, in particular spinal muscular atrophy. I've since been primarily looking after my two daughters and of course teaching them as much as I can as well. I intend to train to be a teacher when my girls are older (to have the summer time free with them), but for now I'm tutoring for the flexibility it offers. I'll need to schedule tutoring sessions far enough in advance to arrange childcare but that shouldn't be a problem. I'll also do a free session where we can chat about the things you want to focus on, and I can get an idea of where you're at and what approaches may be best. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

About Rachel
I started tutoring maths in high school and was often helping other students unofficially as well. I've always been told that I'm good at explaining things in a way that's easy to understand. At university in the USA I was given the opportunity to lead one of the smaller workshop groups for a large chemistry class as part of their peer led team learning program. I was complimented by many of my students on my ability to help them understand/learn.
I also have a first class honours Bsc in chemical biology and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Leicester in the UK.
