About the lesson
I am an enthusiastic piano teacher with experience in teaching pupils of all ages and levels. I am passionate about teaching and want all of my students to excel. I can also teach music theory.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano from complete beginner up to Diploma level and beyond. I can guide students through the ABRSM (or Trinity) grading system for practical and theory exams. However, I am also happy to teach students who do not wish to study for Grades.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
As a child I studied at the Junior Academy with Graham Caskie for four years and then attended the Guildhall School Of Music and Drama, under the tutelage of Caroline Palmer, where I graduated with 1st Class Honors in 2012.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour. £35 for 45 mins. £20 for 30 minutes.
- Where do you teach?
From March my new teaching studio will be completed where I will be able to teach from home. I am based in Romford so I am happy to travel to Havering and the surrounding areas.
- When are you available?
Currently I am available in the evenings from 5.30/6.30pm. From March 2022 I will be available most days/evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels. I am happy to teach pupils from age 6 and above including adult learners.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I like to have my students study what is right for them, each pupil is different. Some of my students are studying for ABRSM Grades and others prefer to develop their skill without grades. I can teach to Grade 8 and post Diploma level. My sole purpose is to get my students to enjoy immersing themselves in music and gain a thorough understanding of piano playing.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to talk over the phone about practical problems. I can help with theory by email/phone also. I can also happily teach online via video link for £30 an hour. £15 for 30 mins.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
The piano is a great instrument with a huge scope of musical possibility. I began playing from a young age and I know it helped me in many different areas of my life other than music. The piano requires great coordination and concentration and brain power. If you are a parent looking for lessons for your child, the piano is a great, fun way to teach them to concentrate. The piano has been shown to help students in maths but also in foreign languages as ones ear will be used to listening very carefully to the nuances within music. If you are an adult who has always wished s/he had started before, it is never too late and I promise that if you are keen, it will enrich your life forever.
- All Levels
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately across London and have also been a teacher at three different Specialist Music Schools. I have also taught at primary and secondary schools across Haringey, teaching children and adults of all ages and varying abilities. I have lots of performance experience as a pianist and have performed at St. Martin in the Fields, the Wigmore Hall (Masterclass with Stephen Hough), St.James Piccadilly, Bluthner Pianos in Westminster and Cheltenham International Music Festival (Town Hall) among other venues. I have coached Chamber music at Schools and also given masterclasses to advanced level pupils. I have arranged and directed music for theatre. Most notably I was Assistant Music Director for ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the Noel Coward Theatre Starring Jim Broadbent.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with Ray Alston (ARCM), Cathy Riley (ARCM), Graham Caskie (ARCM) at the Junior Academy for four years and with Caroline Palmer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Havering Music Service
I took lessons from Schay when I was at School. He not only got me started at piano, but his lessons were so fun and inspiring that I decided to take it on as my career and now I am a touring Musician as my living. He opened me up to a world of Music which has brought me everything in my life.
I will never forget his lessons.
Schay is an excellent piano teacher! I would highly recommend him as the person to go to if you know someone who would like to learn how to play piano!
