About the lesson
Hello, my name is James and I am an award winning voice teacher, working in Staffordshire. If you would like to find your voice, then let me help you...
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I see the central ethos of my teaching practice as "giving voice". Many people are unhappy with their voice. They may not like the way it sounds or they may want to improve the clarity or tone of it, in order to communicate more clearly and successfully with others. Some people may have specific difficulties such as a lisp or stammer, which they want to overcome. Others may simply want to gain more confidence, reducing or removing the anxieties they feel when speaking with others, in order to function more effectively in their everyday lives. I can help you. Making small changes to your voice can often have a huge effect on your life. As a well trained speech practitioner and therapist I am able to help you address many of the issues mentioned above. Whether you’re looking for elocution and accent reduction tuition, work with specific functional speech difficulties, such as a stammer or lisp; or help to address anxieties when speaking before others, we can work together to help you.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I gained both Undergraduate and Post Graduate qualifications in Teaching and Education and Advanced qualifications in Speech, Phonology, Specific Speech Difficulties and Language & Communication Impairment. I hold a Diploma in Contemporary Vocal Teaching and Vocal Therapy, certification in LSVT LOUD techniques and I am also a Licensed Community Speech and Language Practitioner, Family and Play Therapist.
- How much do you charge?
I currently charge £30 per hour for all one-to-one teaching and therapeutic voice work.
- Where do you teach?
I am currently available to teach online via skype or google+ for all voice work. Skype and Google+ are both free video conferencing platforms via which we can see and speak to each other in real time; just as if we were in the same room together, but without the hassle of travelling. I do also run limited clinics in person throughout the year. You should email for upcoming dates.
- When are you available?
My availability varies and I can usually schedule something to fit you.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I offer Speech coaching and Voice Work from 7 years.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I currently offer online tuition via Skype or Google+. See my website for details.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Our lessons will always be challenging. You don't pay me not to learn and develop your skills! However, I can promise they will always be enjoyable, well structured around your own needs and helpful in allowing you to achieve your goal. My studio is a safe place where you can develop your vocal skills, which is often a very vulnerable area, in an understanding environment ready to support and help you. You are always welcome.

As a vocologist I am always researching and writing new papers for publication. I have had many pieces published in the area of voice science and have a book due to be published this year.
His teaching is outstanding. Superbly managed!
The progress we have witnessed... has been
remarkable... we look forward to many more years under his tuition.
I was a good soprano, trained at the Birmingham School of Music, but lung damage had resulted in my losing my ability to do solo work. James taught me a new and novel way to use and understand my vocal ability and I have him to thank for my improvement.
My son has expressed to me how happy and lucky he is to have James as a teacher. I can tell you first hand James is professional, enthusiastic, encouraging and a very accomplished individual.
He has a real ability to motivate and inspire.
