About Bora
Hey, my name is Bora and I am a 21 year-old Chemical Engineering masters student at Imperial College London. Here is a bit about myself, I have spent 12 years in international schools in 4 different countries completing my IGCSE and IB programs in the process. I am fluent in three languages: Russian, Turkish and English. Football, traveling, trying new food, and watching movies are some things I love to do.
Enough about me then, I know how difficult it can be to achieve academic excellence while maintaining a balanced life, but I am here to offer you my personal experience and knowledge to enhance your understanding of the topics you are covering in class. I will present you with techniques that have worked for me in my high school years. You may be overwhelmed by the pressure you face in your academic life, but not to worry, because with guided and directed assistance, you will be able to overcome these stressors. My promise to you is to provide you with the necessary tools to understand, tackle and become competent in areas of maths, physics and chemistry. I am confident that ANY student can increase their grade by at least one letter grade by taking my lessons 1-2 times a week. In addition to academic excellence, I can also provide advice on career options, how to effectively manage stress and any other questions you may have. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

After completing my IGCSEs and IB Diploma Programme with distinction, I am now in my final year at Imperial College London working towards a masters degree in Chemical Engineering. Having completed most of my formal education, I have valuable insight, which would've been most useful in my high school years, into what it takes to set and achieve personal academic goals. Previously, I tutored two students on IGCSE maths and chemistry, and another student on IB physics, chemistry and maths. All three students had increased their predicted grade by the equivalent of at least 1 letter grade.
Having familiarized myself with the GCSE, A level and IB curriculum for maths physics and chemistry, I like to organize the sessions as an extension of the topics the tutee has already covered in class or is covering presently. Before sessions, I prepare a summary sheet of the curriculum learning objectives related to the specific topic which the student can refer back to for preparation. This summary sheet also includes at least 5 relevant past paper questions on the topic. The session begins with a quick oral Q&A in reference to the learning objectives to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the tutee. Then, I explain the theory with an emphasis on breaking down the areas of weaknesses into digestible chunks. During this period, I will refer to resources made available by the tutee's school to enhance understanding. In the next part of the session, some of the problems on the summary sheet will be worked through together, highlighting key shortcuts and techniques. Some problems will be worked on by the student independently to increase competency and practice problem-solving skills. Finally, the session will end with a discussion reflecting on the covered topics and techniques. This section is important to promote the intentionality of the work completed for that day, giving a chance to self-reflect and improve. Homework is optional, though a simple pre-reading of the material before sessions is highly recommended and will go a long way to benefit the tutee. Besides the academic side of the sessions, I am also happy to answer any questions related to university applications and which classes to take to apply for specific degrees.
A typical lesson will take 1.5 hours:
Inspection of the summary sheet and learning objectives - 5 mins
Q&A - 5 mins
Theory - 35 mins
Problem-solving - 35 mins
Session discussion - 10 mins
Note: Theory and problem-solving sections may vary in time depending on the tutee's needs (eg: the tutee may be familiar with the topics covered that day so more emphasis will be placed on problem-solving, conversely, more time may be spent on theory if the tutee lacks understanding of the topic)
