About Heather

I am a graduate of 2:1 Spanish & Portuguese BA Hons degree from The University of Manchester with a huge passion for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. I am fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese and speak beginners level German. I am passionate about conveying the importance of embracing other languages and cultures as it can open many doors and opportunities for personal and professional growth especially given that Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. During my university course, I developed a profound understanding of the Spanish and Portuguese languages and exceptional presentation, analytical and research skills through topics such as politics, history, culture, literature and cinema within the Hispanic world. In a Spanish Linguistics module, which covered the analysis of phonetics, words and sentences of Spanish, I learned about dialectal variations and the ability to use linguistics to facilitate the process of teaching and learning a language. In an optional TESOL module, I observed and wrote commentaries on lessons and studied the theory behind teaching English to learners of various nationalities. I was fortunate to spend time in both Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Jaen, Spain, in the third year of university, working as Travel Consultant and an English Language Assistant respectively. By working abroad, I became fluent in both languages, adapted to new cultures and became more culturally aware and open-minded. I was able to travel extensively throughout Spain and Latin America and communicate with people from different places and backgrounds. In addition to my time as an English Language Assistant, I have also given private English lessons to professionals in Spain, as well as private lessons in Spanish and Portuguese during my free time in England. To conclude, I have a huge passion for languages and a deep love of learning, which I would be delighted to share with students and see them grow in confidence and ability. I regularly read Spanish news, listen to podcasts and watch films in order to continually develop and train my skills.

About the lesson

I will cater to each individual’s needs, whether that is looking to simply improve or start out on your journey to conversational Spanish to help you during your holidays or whether you are working towards your GCSEs or A Levels and need some extra tuition. We will work together to achieve your goals in mastering your desired level of Spanish!
I will also share knowledge into the Hispanic world through my first-hand experiences and by suggesting films, music etc. where desired.
Optional homework can be set.
