Education degree graduate with 6 years teaching ESL in South Korea at schools and privately. I am offering ESL classes ONLINE and can help with any of your English needs, casual or structured.

Methodology

My philosophy is for students to have fun and stay motivated while learning English. I like to share in new experiences and see them achieve their goals. I encourage and give feedback, set homework, and can teach from any textbooks. Alternatively, I enjoy casual conversation classes where we learn small talk topics, cultural differences and try to stay casual.
I am able to meet your needs with whatever you require.

Experience

I graduated from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary) degree in 2011 after 3 years of study and practical teaching. I then moved to South Korea in 2012 where I taught English at 2 elementary schools for 6 years. During this time I also taught English to children and adults privately.
At school, I taught grades 3 to 6 where I led the classes, planned for, made resources, managed behaviour, tested, and evaluated my students’ progress.
Aside from classroom teaching, I conducted English language camps during the summer and winter holidays. Extracurricular activities also included English speech competitions, coaching the school soccer team, and language exchange classes for teachers.
I taught English privately to a range of abilities and ages. My youngest child was 8, returning from the USA and needing to brush up on his English. My oldest group were 3 middle-aged teachers who wanted to learn conversational English. I had several more classes with intermediate aged students who were studying for tests as well as some who were moving to the USA. These classes required good preparation and the correct texts and resources. I planned, set homework, tested and evaluated, and ensured the material was also fun and enjoyable. I liked to share interesting facts and explore cultural differences between countries.

I also tutor the piano.

I love sports, gaming, and nature.

PROFILE

My main area of expertise is teaching. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 2011. From 2012 - 2018 I taught English at public schools in South Korea along with private tutoring. I taught at 2 schools from grade 3 to 6, without a co-teacher (at my last school), meaning I had to teach solo and use my Korean language skills. I privately taught children from grade 2 to 6 as well adult conversational classes during my time there. I also had teaching placements in New Zealand while doing my Education degree from 2009 - 2011. I have worked with students of all ages, am well used to the school dynamic and can work off any resources given. For my most recent job, I was working in Customer Services and as a timber yardman for Herman Pacific, for a year and a half. I gained my Forklift (F) endorsement through working in the store room, as well as company program skills, phone and face to face customer service, and computer and sales skills. Prior to this job, I was a truck driver, furniture mover, and demolisher for FIL Relocations on a contract for the DIA.
I can adapt to a new environment comfortably, given the demanding, hectic lifestyle that Korea provided, and learn a new career path, as I have done upon returning to New Zealand. I love to work effectively without wasting time. I am creative and organised and try to incorporate some of my interests into my work and I have very good working relationships with my co-workers that extends outside of work.
